Life.

Kinda off topic entry (no artz).

Lately I've been working my ass off at work to make ends meet. I've been working a lot of overnight shifts and covering for peoples shifts to get more hours. My parents don't give me money because they don't have any money to give me for school after we lost our house and went bankrupt a while back. I depend on financial aid, my job, and myself.

Many people associated with the major "claim" that once you're in the major, you should quit your job and focus on school... But how can I when I need my job? It frustrates me a lot because it seems like this major is meant for the rich or people who are well off. They have all the time in the world to get better when I'm stuck with work which sucks a lot out of me. I wish I had all of winter break to focus on getting better but working nearly everyday and plenty of overnight shifts to pay rent, bills, etc... It's tiring.

I don't mean to vent but sometimes I have to or else I'll go crazy. I'm gonna go off to draw now... And no, I will not quit my job.

Hoorays!

After 2 1/2 years I applied and got accepted into the Animation/Illustration program here at SJSU. It's a huge honor and I can't wait for the real work to begin. Instead of posting the actual spreads on my blog I just posted my top 2 favorite works from my portfolio. Sketchbook and animal study.

Reversal

This is my reversal from John Clapp's 112A class last spring. Never got a chance to post it and the only picture I have of it is from my phone... In the picture I was a little more than half way done but then again it was never fully finished. I had a lot of fun on it towards the end, the beginning not so much. I ended up giving it to my mom as a gift when I went home briefly for the summer, which she really loved. Sleepless nights along with working on the book from Art 50 (which gave me hell) paid off. I'll try to get a bigger picture when I go home to visit, whenever that may be.

Sketchbook Aminals!

I sketched a few animal drawings after taking a break from homework. I find drawing animals more fun than drawing humans, my dog being one of my very first subjects. I sketched a few "monitor lizards" but ended up looking more like komodo dragon-esque. After doing a few doodles I pulled up actual reference for the komodo. Threw in some little bear sketches as well.

"Old Art" update.. with some new ones...

It's been a while since I've updated. Been extremely busy with working and doing some concept work for a children's chapter book I've been hired to do. I wish I can post some of the work but I've been ordered to keep it under the wraps for now. Here's some artwork I meant to update at the beginning of summer, mostly sketches from last semester. The new  stuff has yet to be scanned. (please ignore the first drawing... lol)

Tippa

I was rummaging through my old photobucket account and found this old drawing of my dog along with numerous photos of her. Tippa was always one of my favorite subjects to draw from life since I was a kid, she was my "fur baby". She passed away last October at the age of 16. Growing up with a dog can teach you a lot in life and I miss her more than anything.

We adopted her in 1996 from a lady who was getting remarried to a man who hated dogs. So what does she do? She sacrifices the family dog for a new husband (bad taste in men if you ask me)... The day we came to pick Tiffany up, the lady's kids (mind you they had no idea about their mom's plan of giving their beloved dog of 3 years away) were shocked and cried, begging her to stop. At the time I was only 6 years and totally oblivious to their pain. My only thought was, "Yay our new dog!" Thinking back now, I feel bad for those kids because they missed out on growing up with one of the best and most loving dog in the entire world... I don't regret it though!
Expect to see more drawings of her soon.. =)
